Alta Via dei Monti Liguri: the completely ridable track

[Press release] Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, here in after named AVML, is a ridge trail that crosses our Ligurian Alps and Appennins from Ventimiglia to Ceparana (La Spezia/Italia).
Breathtaking mountains and landscapes with our Ligurian sea not far, often in the background, good climate, friendly hospitality, good food, history, culture and more shall be with you while busy riding your mountain bike in our Liguria.

The AVML trail was designed thirty over years ago and, till nowadays, it is mainly intended as a trail to be walked on foot. This “on foot route” is 430 km long.
Although there have been many bikers who, over the years, have ventured with their mountain bikes on the existing AVML route, our Associazione Ospitalità Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, considering the growing interest in the use of mountain bikes by families and bikers of any age, has recently designed a completely bike rideable path ideal for all ages and also suitable to e-bikes too. This latter “by mountain bike route”, is longer, and consists of total 540 km.

This new route:
– starts always at Ventimiglia and ends in Ceparana (La Spezia)
as afore mentioned, due to a number of deviations which were necessary to make is rideable all the way, the mountain bike path it is long 540 km. (approximately 100 km longer than the “on foot” path)
– on it there is absolutely no portage involved
– it goes on dirt roads, few easy single tracks with some stretch of asphalt too (all roads with little traffic excluding the first few kilomenters after the start from Ventimiglia)
– even the more demanding parts of the trail involve no specific biking skills
– any starting or ending point of the trail can be easily reached from any village / railway station of our Ligurian Riviera
– transport of bicycles on Regional Trains is free of any charge
– subject to early arrangements, shuttle services and luggage transport can be provided by owners/keepers of certain accommodation facilities

Our Associazione Ospitalità Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, is a private institution, all our members are owners or keepers of the very many accommodations facilities available along the route. Our work is exclusively based on the voluntary service of its members with the target of expanding, in Italy and abroad, the knowledge of this fantastic trail among lovers of open air activities.
AVML is open to bikers (and trekkers) nearly all year round.

Claudio Simonetti, one of our Association founder members, has prepared the always up-to-date on line guide www.altaviainfoh24.com and runs the free telephone Alta Via Info H24 +39.338.16.29.347 This is an unique service, operational H24, holidays included, in English and French too (my apologies to our German speaking friends for my inability to speak your language but have found that English is no problem for all of you) and, case need, offers further assistance to bikers in real time.

Our on line guide www.altaviainfoh24.com is divided into two parts. On the left hand side of the landing page you shall see the “on foot” part, right hand side the “by mountain bike” one.
This latter part is worked out into seven geographical “sections” that can be turned into “daily stages” by individual bikers to suit their personal requirements and phisical training.
The guide contains a very detailed description of the route (road book), GPS track, altimetry, the very many accommodation facilities (which are also intended as e-bike battery recharge stations), shelters, food and much more. All its contents are described with Longitude North and Latitude East. Section 1) has open and free access by anyone to allow users to evaluate its contents. Access to the coplete guide requires an early subscription, with NO authomatic renewal, of € 5 (five only) payable by any credit card on our Paypal account.
Claudio remains available for any further information that bikers might require.

He and all members of Associazione Ospitaliità Alta Via dei Monti Liguri wishes you a nice stay in our Liguria.
