[Bike Check] Brendog’s Custom SCOTT SPARK 700

[ad3]

Brendan Fairclough happened to be in town for a day passing through Santa Cruz en route to Rampage.  After a quick shred with him in the morning, we figured that we may as well nab some photos of his rad new Scott Spark 700.  He’s definitely running a bit of an unconventional setup, but clearly it’s working out for him…

Brendog is running the Spark 700 Plus Tuned frame; it’s meant for 29″ or 27.5″ Plus wheels but being the unconventional type, he runs standard 27.5″ wheels on this frame to get a freakishly low bottom bracket.  The frame has 130mm of rear travel, but he runs a 150mm travel FOX 36 up front to being the front end up, slacken it out a bit and make the bike a bit more aggressive.  Interesting setup for sure.

Deity cockpit – Black Label handlebar.  All black of course.

And a Deity Cavity 50mm stem.

Shimano XTR Di2 drivetrain.

Nice, clean routing with the electronic cable passing through the derailleur hanger.

Fox EVOL Nude DPS out back with an internally routed lockout option going from inside the downtube straight to the shock.

Brendog doesn’t use the lockout, but this is a better view of the porting/connection.

Shimano XTR levers…

…and Saint Calipers.

Brendog’s signature DMR Deathgrips in Slim/Soft/Gum.  Good luck finding them.  Especially if you live in Europe.  Dialed lever for the FOX Transfer post. Fox Transfer post – 150mm travel.Syncros saddle with Carbon rails to save a little weight.

DMR Brendog signature Vault Pedals.

DT Swiss XMC 1200 wheels.  Boost spacing, carbon rims – surprisingly tough.Straight pull spokes coming from the DT Swiss 240S hubs.

Schwalbe Dirty Dan up front – trimmed down center knobs. Side knobs knocked clean off.Schwalbe Magic Mary out back with LOADS of clearance.
Some velcro on the chainstays to keep things running quiet.

The linkage can be tightened with the T25 Torx that snaps into the rear axle. Nifty. The Spark is super beefy down low and rather lean up top.  Brendog is loving it so we’ll try to line one up for test soon.
