Today, Devinci unveils a completely re-designed Spartan. It’s got all the current fittings and trim (boost, metric, trunnion) but in a frame that’s longer up front and shorter out back. There are both carbon fiber and aluminum versions and despite still having split pivot, the bike has been reconfigured with regard to its suspension layout.

“DMC-G carbon frames feature Devinci’s advanced EPS Molding, which equals flawless form consistency and stiffer, stronger engineering. We also put the bike on a diet, turning 310 grams of extra weight into chiselled Enduro muscle (-150g from the frame, -160g thanks to a the new shorter carbon chainstay). In the field, race-ready requisites begin with a 36T compatible front ring meets 170mm dropper post (compatible on M-L-XL), 2.6 tire clearance, metric shock, and front and back boost. Additionally, a Kevlar reinforced carbon bashplate hides a Di2 battery holder molded into the frame—which you can also use to house your stash.”
In line with the demands of top EWS riders such as Devinci’s Damien Oton, the new Spartan geometry features a 170mm fork with an on-trend, slack head tube angle ranging from 65 ° in LOW to 65.4 ° in HIGH. As with all Devinci bikes, it is possible to vary the geometry by simply flipping chips at the rear shock. The reach also increases with respect to the previous one, for example, for the size M from 413 to 445 mm. The rear stays sit a little higher, improving the ground clearance in the more technical and rocky sections while the downtube drops slightly, lowering the center of gravity as well.
The complete re-design of the frame which allowed for a full bottle cage also resulted a complete makeover with suspension. The Spartan still utilizes Split Pivot suspension, but now has a more traditional 4-bar style linkage. Keeping up to date, it features a Trunnion mount shock in Metric sizing that is compatible with both coil and air sprung shocks.
The Spartan 2018 features a full carbon frame that saves up to 310 grams compared to the previous version. The frame drastically gains in vertical stiffness (+ 30%) as well as lateral (+ 50%) leaving the shock absorber to better do its job. In the downtube, there is space for the Di2 batteries can be housed, which can also be used as a storage compartment protected by a carbon bashguard. ISCG support is always present. Cable routing is fully internal, but with wide accessibility. The seat tube now allows compatibility with 170mm travel dropper postss on the M-L-XL sizes for better descending. The rear end accepts tires up to 2.6 “.
There are two versions of the new Spartan: carbon fiber and aluminum. The Spartan Al – in the Devinci tradition, is entirely produced at the historic headquarters in Chicoutimi, and shares identical geometry with the carbon frame which is made overseas.
