[First Look] Evil Bikes The Following long term test bike

/

We recently got a chance to test the Evil Bikes “The Following” as a frame. Since we weren’t bound by the constraints of an off the shelf bike build that gave us the chance to basically build a BLACK dream bike with some really cool test parts. Big thanks to SRAM and Specialized for that. Anyhow, Geometry is as follows and we’re testing the bike in the low/slack position.

SRAM X01 drivetrain. More black! 30T Chainring for our weak legs. Frame Protection is well integrated into the seat and chainstays.

The heart of it all - DELTA system. "Dave's Extra Legitimate Travel Apparatus"...proprietary to EVIL bikes, this lets the user independently adjust geometry without affecting kinematics of the suspension.

RockShox boingers. Our 180 pound test rider uses his Pike RCT3 SoloAir with 2 Bottomless Tokens @ 92 PSI. Monarch Debonair with 2 Bottomless Rings @ 250 PSI. A 125mm Reverb Stealth rounds things out.

Specialized S-Works DH bar. Carbon Fiber, 780mm wide, 240 Grams and it feels just right in your hands. 50mm Renthal Apex stem has been a proven winner for us as well. Can't forget the SWAT EMT top cap chain tool. Lifesaver.

A great deal of a asymmetrical layout on the frame in both the front and the rear end.

SRAM guide Ultimates. We're testing them now and first impressions are good. So consistent and the lever feel is top notch.

Details, details, details....Downtube guard, internal dropper post routing and a BURLY headtube.

Specialized has a very different take on saddles these days. The Power Comp. Shorter and wider with a great deal of relief in the center. First impressions are amazing.

What a menacing front end.

Roval Traverse Fattie Carbon wheels. 30mm internal width rims provide additional traction and a more stable contact patch. Very scant but very burly wheels. DT swiss internals with the 36 tooth engagement.

The tire clearance isn't bad. It can clear up to a 2.4" tire.

Specialized Butcher tires front and rear. Already a proven winner, we opted for the GRID casing out back and the CONTROL casing up front. The CONTROL saves some weight, but the GRID is reinforced to prevent flats a bit better...
