Focus introduces the JAM

[Press release]

A 27.5” all-mountain bike with 140 mm travel, the FOCUS JAM is the latest young sprog to join the successful FOCUS trail family as a bike that’s made for a never-ending off-road adventures on technical terrain. Equally at ease on hard- as-nails home trails as well as burly mountainous turf, it’s a mesmerising all-rounder with numerous standout traits: the FOCUS typical design language, aggressive all-mountain geometry and the all-new F.O.L.D. rear suspension design.

Vast landscapes with solitary singletracks set amongst a backdrop of majestic mountains. Alpine hairpin descents and intense, technical uphill climbs that demand every ounce of concentration. These are the rides that ask for reliability, for fearlessness and the ability to conquer all types of terrain. It’s mountain biking at its purest, at its most undiluted. The 27.5” all-mountain FOCUS JAM with its 140 mm of travel is destined to take you on your most epic riding adventures.

At the heart of the JAM: a lightweight, rigid carbon and aluminium chassis.
As the ultimate foundation for the FOCUS JAM, our engineers have created bulletproof carbon and aluminium frames. Developed in-house in Stuttgart, the carbon fibre chassis isn’t just super stable, but also super lightweight at just 2060 g (size M).
One of the key design elements of this frame is the muscular front end, where the top tube seam- lessly flares into the head and down tube to create a super stiff and ultra responsive ride, even at high speeds. Boost 148 and Boost 110 hub standards ensure stiffer and more stable wheels. As expected, the high quality FOCUS bearings, including those in the F.O.L.D. rear suspension design, are a welcome sight. And the same applies to the FOCUS JAM’s smooth suspension and outstanding durability.

True to tradition, FOCUS have harmoniously combined their angular tube profile with a fluid chassis design. The F.O.L.D. suspension design and low-slung downtube give sufficient space for a bottle cage mount. The very low sloping toptube on the FOCUS JAM gives the rider ample freedom for movement and lends itself to an aggressive riding style.

A potent climber and descender – thanks to its modern geometry.
This all-mountain new entrant from FOCUS has modern geometry that exacts an aggressive riding style, with the gen- erous reach (size M: 435 mm) allowing for rapid weight shifting to meet the gradients. Brimming with confidence as you rip around a hard-packed corner, exiting playfully as you pump the berm: with its compact 425 mm chainstays, the FOCUS JAM has a healthy pop to it, injected with agility and a slack 66.8° head angle and buttery smoothness for unadulterated downhills. However, not confined to descents, the product developers took it further and engineered a bike that can climb with equal prowess: the steep, ergonomic seat angle of 74.5° guarantees efficient pedalling, drawing out the bike’s nimble side. As a result, the refined geometry and playful ride make the FOCUS JAM more than capable of everything from trail quickies to multi-day Alpine rides with a ton of pedalling.

“In my eyes the JAM is the perfect all-mountain bike. It combines first-rate handling with first-rate SUSPENSION. A guarantee for fun on every sort of adventure!”
Fabian Scholz, German Enduro Champion and FOCUS engineer

First-rate suspension thanks to the new F.O.L.D.
A further indulgence for any rider comes from the JAM’s use of the new FOCUS F.O.L.D. rear suspension design. Given the low positioning of the F.O.L.D. linkage in the centre of the frame, we’ve been able to achieve a centralised, low centre of gravity, helped in part by the closed rear triangle. As a consequence, the JAM marries a balanced handling package with intoxicating performance.

The responsive F.O.L.D. design generates enormous amounts of traction and willingly absorbs bumps, acting as a huge confidence-booster for entry-level all-mountain riders. For more advanced riders, this same fusion lends itself to aggressive, more dominating riding even on the toughest terrain. But whatever the ability, all riders will appreciate how the low centre of gravity and playful handling keeps the bike planted on all terrain.

“When developing F.O.L.D, our main priority was to create an immensely versatile system that we could use on a range of bikes from cross-country to all-mountain and even enduro too. The unifier: it’s capable of satisfying the widest range of demands.”
Thomas Trapp, head of engineering

Field-proven parts, four frame sizes – All-mountain fun straight from the factory.
FOCUS’s obsession with details is always at the benefit of the riders and runs ceaselessly though the spec list of the six JAM models, with each model sporting a dropper post to deliver uninterrupted trail flow for the rider. The ISCG 05 tab on the bottom bracket allows a chain guide to be mounted effortlessly; who can argue with the benefits of avoiding un- wanted chain drop on gnarly terrain. The FOCUS JAM models also show consideration for various rider levels – unlike the other models, the JAM C Pro and JAM Elite both house a regular 2x drivetrain.
The three aluminium JAM models, the two carbon-framed JAMs with an aluminium rear, as well as the full carbon JAM C SL model all come in four frame sizes, meaning everyone can exploit its advantages.

FOCUS JAM – you’re prepared for endless adventures in the mountains.

F.O.L.D.

On the hunt for the ultimate riding experience, FOCUS developed and patented an entirely new suspension design. This technology has been optimized to deliver performance in the widest range of circumstances. We call this system the FOCUS OPTIMIZED LINKAGE DESIGN.

F.O.L.D. embodies the ultimate rear suspen- sion performance. Enabling our engineers to optimize the linkage to a great variety of demands and to ensure the highest level of fun on any adventures.

The system’s travel is divided in two phases. Within the first phase of travel, the system works degressively for super sensitivity, thereby eliminating microbumps and generating immense grip.
The second phase of the travel offers fine tuned progression for both plushness and feedback while still ensuring enough bottom-out resistance. So the rider is always in control of the bike.

To match this technology and to generate the ultimate riding performance we use only dedicated tuned shocks.

The Guidelink affects the rear end stiffness. Our engineers have worked on the balance between rigidity and forgiveness of the chassis.
The dimensioning of the Mainlink and Guidelink has been de- signed to form the ultimate combination of rear end stiffness and maximum grip even when riding through the deepest ruts and the roughest corners.

All suspension hardware is located in the frame’s center. The resulting low center of gravity ena- bles superb handling that gives you extra con- fidence, especially on technical terrain and cornering.
The optimized centralised mass affects the riding dynamic as well as the great han- dling of the bike.

The core of the F.O.L.D. design is the one piece rear triangle, which results not only in massive weight savings but also significantly minimizes the unsprung weight.
All bearings are centralised in the main frame. As a result of that all suspension hardware is secure of mud-spray from the backwheel.

The FD-Mount on the BURRITO BRIDGE is an innovative feature for all who still want to run a 2by-setup. For all others – simply dismount it. A feature, which not only saves weight but also looks damn good.

The very compact and space saving F.O.L.D. system allows for mounting a 0,5 l bottle throughout all frame sizes.
