We told you about them in June last year, when Formula previewed them at Bike Connection Summer 2021. Now they are officially entering the market, starting in July, satisfying a long wait for mountain bikers who have been waiting for an XC version of the Formula brakes.
We are talking about the Cura X, the braking system based on the 2-piston Cura, with attention to every detail to file as much weight as possible without compromising the excellent performance that made the brakes of the Tuscan brand famous.
In fact, the Cura X are fitted with carbon fiber levers, slightly thicker than the standard aluminum levers, thickness intended as the height of the contact surface with the finger. Having had the opportunity to try them, I can tell you that the glossy finish of the lever offers a remarkable grip both on bare fingertips and on gloves equipped with rubberized inserts at the fingertips.
They are equipped with organic pads with aluminum alloy support, which are lighter and disperse heat more easily. They feature Kevlar tubing to reduce weight and optimize performance as they are stiffer than standard tubing and less prone to deformation. The collar is lightened with a central slot and the screws are entirely in grade 5 titanium alloy.
The various measures applied to the Cura to create the Cura X allow a weight saving of 34 grams per brake. We have not received any indications regarding the list price, but we know that they will be available in the three standard colors shown by Formula, namely glossy black, polished and gold.
