This past Saturday marked the last Jump Jam at the iconic Aptos post office jumps. Spectators and riders came from far and wide to watch one last final jam session. We were there to take in the last ride as well as the spots eventual demise and destruction. Take a look at the jumps’ final moments here.
With weather in the 70’s and a big crowd, riders and viewers alike soaked in the sun.
A wave of dry weather necessitated ample watering to keep the jumps running nicely. Mikey Haderer made the trip down and was glad to help.
Even young pinner Jackson Goldstone came down and proved his prowess.
As the sun goes down, the riding starts to get next level. Ryan “R-Dog” Howard demonstrates.
Brett Rheeder escaped the snow and made the trip down as well.
Young up and comer Owen Marks has been blowing our minds lately. At just 16 years old, he’s showing enormous amounts of talent. Owen’s death grip indicates he might have some BMX roots.
The crowd was healthy and abundant all day.
R-Dog has had a good run here and has always kept the groms in check.
Bas Van Steenbergen, another big name Canadian made his way down south for a few days.
When he’s not busy Hi Fiving the big dogs, Jackson Goldstone is busy sending it on the big lines. 10 years old. Unreal.
Four riders sending the trick line four ways. Jeff Herbertson – Indian Air, R-Dog with a pretty flat truck driver, Tyler McCaul with a 3 downwhip and Alex Reveles with his signature 360 turnbuckle.
Cam McCaul, an Aptos native living in Bend OR made the trip down to see his home spot get laid to rest.
Local Connor Gallart tailwhipping into the setting sun.
Alex Reveles quietly riding with so much steeze.
Another Bend OR rider – Carson Storch made the trek down south for some time in the sun.
Brett Rheeder Cork 720. Looks like someone is getting ready for Crankworx Rotorua.
As the Sun eventually set, riders were frantically getting in their last laps. Jackson was no exception.
More Rheeder insanity.
And lastly, nothing would be more fitting than R-Dog with a flat 3 into an insane sunset.
Monday night there was quite a celebration.
And on Tuesday, the remaining riders would greeted by a sobering reality.
Showing great signs of eagerness and maturity, Jackson Goldstone hustled to get some final laps in. By the time the bulldozers showed up, he was tricking the big line. Still hard to wrap our head around such an insane feat.
As 8:00 AM approached, riders frantically decided to tear down their creations themselves.
Sadly, it was only a matter of time til the Bulldozers caught up to them.
Now there was nothing left of their childhood dreams.
