[Gallery] Schurter wins at Monte Tamaro

[ad3]

6 of the 12 top riders from the UCI ranking started today at the Monte Tamaro Trophy, in Switzerland. Perfect weather and great trails awaited the riders, cheered by the crowd enjoying the first real warm weekend in Canton Ticino, young Nino fans included.

Between the women, Irina Kalentyeva from Russia dominates the race in front of Jenny Rissveds from Sweden and Marine Groccia from Switzerland in the technical track at the bottom of Monte Tamaro (remember the 2003 world championships?)

Jenny Rissveds defended her 2nd position during the whole race. She crashed twice while getting closer to Kalentyeva.
And Kalentyeva never let her pass.
The men start always reminds of a sprint race. But it took Schurter 90 minutes to pass the finish line.
Around 60 elite men started.
During the first lap Manuel Fumic was chasing Nino Schurter.
Unfortunately at the end of lap 1 Fumic had a flat tire, losing many positions.
Martin Fanger, BMC MTB Team, trying to find the balance.
Manuel Fumic entering a corner.
BMC have  been chasing Scott and Cannondale during the whole race.
Fontana behind Näph. Not for too long.
Fumic fell back because of the flat.
Steep climbs and steep downhills.
Fontana now second, with tons of style.
This was a real mountain bike track.
Gioele Bortolini goes Schurter.
The trails have been perfectly cleaned up by the local Velo Club Monte Tamaro
Schurter on a technical section.
Fontana.
Nice and warm weather. Time to leave the sofa and get into the nature.
Schurter in the lead. The gap to Fontana was around 30 seconds.
Fontana controlled Näf very well and seemed to be in a good shape.
Ralph Näf finished third.
Fumic will end in 8th place.
Dust. Who missed that?
Another rocky section of the track.
The winner and an overlapped rider that probably thought to have finished second.
Fontana crosses the line with a wheelie. That means he is happy. Very happy.
