Introducing the Leatt DBX 6.0 Carbon

[ad3]

We recently got our hands on a new Leatt DBX 6.0 Carbon helmet for testing.  The South African company which introduced spinal protection (in the form of neck braces) to the cycling industry just entered the helmet world.  Unsurprisingly, they’re taking a very different approach to their design.

First and foremost, Leatt obviously considers safety the number one priority. Eleven “360 Turbines” are placed strategically between the EPS and rider’s head.

These bumpers are made of soft “Armourgel” that hardens on impact. They improve the multiple-impact protection, but more importantly reduce the head impact at concussion level by up to 30% and the rotational acceleration to head and brain by up to 40%.  Leatt reduced the outer shell volume and helmet weight, which also lowers the G-forces transferred to the head and brain.

Details

• DBX 6.0 Carbon : €539
• DBX 5.0 Composite : €431
• Six different sizes : XS to XXL / 53cm to 64cm head circumference.
• 950 grams (DBX 6.0 Carbon)
• 990 grams (DBX 5.0 Composite)

Key Features

• Neck brace optimized shape
• Hands-free hydration option
• Breakaway visors,
• Low friction cheek pads for emergency removal

Removable cheekpads are secured with buttons.
Well placed ventilation has plastic inserts which help prevent anything dangerous from entering.
Foam inserts in front of the jaw vents prevent mud from getting in. Extra foam is provided for the other vents.
A hydration tube port is built into the lower molding on the helmet for hands free sipping.
Breakaway visor is adjustable via both Allen key and good old fashioned fingers.

Colorway options for the DBX 6.0 Carbon and DBX 5.0 Composite.

We’ll be putting our helmet to use over the next few months to see how it treats us on the DH trails.  The fit and finish is excellent and our first impressions are very good, but it’s far too early to tell.  We’ll keep you posted.
