Mondraker just announced the new version of the Foxy Carbon, featuring a handful of updates. While it still retains much of what we’ve come to expect from the Spanish brand, it sees things like Metric, Boost a treaded BB and a handful of other subtle, but key updates to keep it well…up to date. Check out the press release below in Mondraker’s words. For specs and pricing, scroll down toward the bottom.
The new Foxy Carbon brings together our best and most sophisticated technologies and means the biggest evolution undergone by a model with its technical features. Its design represents an extraordinary breakthrough, with a front triangle that features a more stylized layout with thinner tubes; an upper tube with a flatter profile that inspires and brings greater speed and lightness, establishing a new stiffness standard, along with a new rear with an entirely renewed and structurally reinforced swingarm. It is the first model we offer in two manufacturing levels Stealth Carbon and Stealth Air Carbon, the latter present in the sophisticated and exclusive RR SL version.
Zero Suspension System has been fully optimized and its redesigned rear suspension offers superior performance. It is the first one introducing a metric sized shock with Trunnion mount and quite possibly the model in which we have spent more hours of development and tested more prototypes with different kinematic configurations until accomplishing the best possible performance. Its more compact rear suspension features a new 15 mm thru-axle pivots with larger bearings, being Enduro branded bearings for the RR SL model. Due to its new kinematics, the structural and technological upgrades introduced and its increased travel to 150mm, its plushness and overall absorption have improved exponentially without losing any pedalling efficiency which makes the new Foxy even more versatile and much more capable, with extraordinary rear suspension performance and a unique Foxy Carbon experience.
On top of that, its Forward Geometry has also evolved so that Foxy Carbon remains being our benchmark model, putting special emphasis on the best possible geometric balance and going a step further, offering the possibility of adjusting the head angle in +/-1º and the chainstay length in +/- 10mm; both features directly inherited from our Summum Carbon and Dune Carbon. Forward Geometry is based on the same geometric standard of longer tubes combined with shorter stems of 30mm in length of the original concept we launched in 2013, progressing and being refined and perfected season after season, adopting small improvements and evolutions that set us apart from the rest to keep being the benchmark.
One bike for all
Foxy Carbon combines the agility, handling and lightness of a Trail bike with the great absorption, traction, confidence inspiring and fun of a last generation Enduro bike. Featuring a state-of-the-art Stealth Full Carbon frame, updated 150mm Zero Suspension System, metric sized shock with Trunnion mount and exclusive and evolved Forward Geometry with adjustable geometry, Foxy Carbon turns into a new All Mountain-Enduro benchmark. Currently, we believe it is the best representation of the future of the Mountain Bikes available today.
-CSC- Carbon Stiffness Control Technology
The manufacturing process of the new Foxy Carbon upper link with Trunnion mount represents an innovative technological solution for a key element in the design and performance of the new rear suspension. It is a 3-piece construction combined with a carbon central section that allows some controlled flex, minimize vibrations, whilst saving a few grams. 8 bearings are present in the upper link: Four in the back -two on each side- joining the seatstays, and two in each pivot point with the frame and shock respectively, being Foxy Carbon the first model in the Mondraker range to embrace this innovative construction that ensures the best performance together with the new Zero suspension system optimization.
Following the trend that characterizes all the high-end Mondraker models in recent seasons, the new Foxy Carbon benefits from the use of our proprietary Forward Geometry improving performance, backed by a better control of our bike, superior handling, stability and confidence, that in a high-end bicycle are key arguments. The new Foxy Carbon introduces a geometry with a slacker head angle, revised bottom bracket height based on its longer suspension travel, shorter chainstay length with 425mm and longer front center and reach that, as a whole, establish a new geometric evolution according to the needs and rigors of this high performance model.
Forward Geometry is based on a geometry with longer top tubes combined with a shorter stem length. In the case of the new Foxy Carbon 2018 and likewise the rest of Mondraker Forward Geometry models, we spec the standard FG30 stem for all R, RR; XR and RR SL versions available in four sizes S, M, L and XL.
Forward Geometry offers greater safety in technical and steep terrain, with a more forward front wheel axle that provides greater stability even on really steep trails, up or down. This increase in the length of the Front Center -and therefore on the bike wheelbase- creates a more composed and stable bike at high speed in any situation. Forward Geometry establishes a new weight balance, making it possible to load the front wheel much more than with a traditional geometry. This fact allows you to improve your riding and handling skills, offering greater grip on turns, better traction even on really steep downhill trails that seemed impossible to ride at first sight, dramatically improving control.
-Adjustable geometry: +/- 1º head angle +/- 10mm chainstay length
Foxy Carbon 2018 inherits the technology also present in our Summum Carbon or Dune Carbon models offering the possibility of adjusting its geometry. According to our personal preferences or type of use, we can adjust the head angle by +/-1º whilst the chainstay length is adjustable by +/-10mm.
-Boost 148×12 and 110×15 mm
Foxy Carbon features the new standard Boost hub with 110×15 mm front and 148×12 mm rear spacing.
-HHG Internal cable routing: Hidden Housing Guide
Foxy Carbon benefits from our HHG technology with internal guide for the rear derailleur cable, rear brake line and internally routed seatpost on all models. HHG features some external stops to attach the cables, avoiding any possible noise whilst preserving the most sleek and as clean as possible design.
-Exclusive downtube and chainstay protectors
To prevent that any stone or hit could damage the downtube or the chain can directly hit the chainstay surface, we have designed exclusive protectors made from carbon and high density rubber respectively, which help preserve and maintain the frameset as brand new.
-ISCG05 / BB73 threaded bottom bracket shell/ Tapered headtube/ Post mount rear brake caliper
Foxy Carbon has the option of installing a chainguide with ISCG05 mount. The bottom bracket is a standard type english thread with a shell width of 73mm to provide the maximum stiffness and reliability as possible. The headtube is tapered, 1-1/8” upper and 1-1/2” lower. The rear brake is post-mount with new location for the caliper between seatstays and chainstays- collaborating on the creative clean lines and exceptional design of its carbon frame, improving brake efficiency and minimizing vibrations.
-New oversized pivot thru axles and Enduro bearings
Foxy Carbon models benefit from bigger diameter thru axles (15 mm) as well as oversized bearings, increasing lifespan and reliability, able to withstand higher loads and a more demanding ride. Foxy Carbon RR SL feature exclusive Enduro branded bearings.
