Process X & Honzo: Kona’s 2021 Lineup

Kona just presented their 2021 range with a great many updates, among which two absolute novelties stand out, one in the Enduro realm – the brand new Process X, and the other in the hardtail field – the new Honzo ESD. Below we’ll find out about the details of these two new options from the iconic Canadian brand.

PROCESS X

A variation of Kona’s aggressive 29″ enduro underlines the brand’s gravity range and the new Process X has really aggressive geometry, 162mm travel, a frame entirely in carbon fiber and the possibility to mount both 29″ wheels and 27.5″ wheels, thanks to the adjustable geo for each format.

The front is also dominated by the particularly aggressive gravity oriented forks, Zeb or 38 depending on the set-up, with 170mm travel .

The suspension system uses a standard 4-bar linkage, with a trunnion mount to be precise, and leaves ample space to the bottle cage.

Thanks to the adjustable geometry, you can choose to quickly switch from a 29 “configuration to a mullet configuration, installing a 27.5” wheel at the rear by turning the appropriate flip chip.

The length of the rear center can also be adjusted in two sizes, 435 or 450mm. The short setting has its advantages but with such a long front end due to the wide open steering angle, it is often preferable to balance the bike with a longer chainstay length.

The particularly short seat tube allows you to install long travel dropper seatposts, specifically with 170mm of stroke for sizes S and M and 200mm for sizes L and XL.

The cable and hose passage is inside the frame and is entirely sleeved.

The bumpers on the chainstay and under the downtube complete the details, both in the part near the bottom bracket and at the top, to protect the frame from the debris coming off the front tire.

HONZO ESD

Now imagine taking the geometry of the Process X and transferring them to a hardtail with a steel frame and an aggressive set-up: here is the new Honzo ESD.

The steering angle is 63. °, combined with a long reach and a short offset fork.

A Marzocchi B1 Z1 with 150mm travel with a Grip hydraulic cartridge.

The chainstay length, thanks to the adjustable dropouts, can be extended from 417 to 435mm and allows you to mount a single speed drivetrain.

The seat tube is super steep for a hardtail and is very short to accommodate dropper seatposts of the maximum possible travel.
