Over the span of the last couple of weeks, we’ve been talking to various Red Bull Rampage athletes and picking their brains regarding preparation for the biggest event in freeride. Just recently we caught up with one of 3 two time Rampage winners – Kyle Strait. Check out how he’s been preparing and what he’s been getting into as we lead up to the big show…
MTB-Mag: What are some big changes you make to your bike for Rampage?
Kyle: I don’t make any huge changes from my Freeride bike that I have throughout the year. The way if differs more from my DH race bike is the spring rate goes up dramatically and the same goes with valving on the shock.
MTB-Mag: Do you have any major changes of kit or your protective wear?
Kyle: Just the basics – helmet, knee pads, gloves (and Vans skate Hi’s)
MTB-Mag: Are you changing anything in your line this year? If so what are you changing?
Kyle: Yes I think so. Most likely I will be running about the same line as last year but things can fully change once we are able to do the site check which is on the 18th.
MTB-Mag: What’s your biggest fear or concern this year?
Kyle: Wind! That is the only thing I’m ever concerned about there.
MTB-Mag: Do you have any goals for your line or your result? Any tricks you want to do?
Kyle: Yes, of course. I have been working on some new things this year and I’m really hoping I can pull it out for this year’s Rampage. Taking another W is where it’s at!
MTB-Mag: Yeah bud! Have fun and be safe…
