SCOTT USA partners w/ Cycling Development Jr/U23 MTB Team

Northern California team supports emerging talent at the high school and collegiate level.

Salt Lake City, Utah:  Scott Sports and Cycling Development are pleased to announce the launch of the Cycling Development-SCOTT mountain bike team.  Formed to create unique opportunities for a group of elite young athletes, riders on the team are dedicated to excellence on the bike, excellence in the classroom, and serving as ambassadors for the sport of mountain biking.

Team Director Mark Ferry said, “Our goal is to help shape these young men and women not only into elite athletes, but also first class citizens.  Their dedication to education and the community is just as important as their race results.”

The Cycling Development-SCOTT team is comprised of athletes ranging from ages 15 to 22.  Over the course of the upcoming season, the team will compete in events ranging from NICA High School league races to USA Cycling PRO XCT races. Cycling Development-SCOTT riders will take the start at many of the major races on the west coast during the spring as well as the USAC National Championships this summer.   

“In addition to our core focus on cross country racing, the team also has racers who will race in the XTERRA series, adventure races, cyclocross races, road races, and criteriums,” said Ferry. “These young athletes love to race,” he affirmed. 

Team riders will be competing on the all-new 2017 Scott Spark RC 900 World Cup mountain bikes equipped with the latest generation SRAM Eagle drive trains.  Ferry commented, “We are excited to work with Scott Sports and SRAM.  Our athletes are stoked to be racing the same bikes as Olympic gold medalists Nino Schurter and Jenny Rissveds.”

Zack Vestal, Bike Marketing Manager for SCOTT SPORTS in the US, commented, “It’s exciting for us to see this ambitious program come to fruition. We firmly believe in the importance of youth cycling. These riders create the future of our sport and it’s our pleasure to support this team.”

SRAM’s MTB Sports Marketing Director John Dawson added, “SRAM has always been a strong supporter of development racing, and after getting to know Mark and discussing the program, I’m confident he will provide the right tools and keep it a fun environment for these aspiring athletes. And partnering again with a great brand like SCOTT, but now on a development level, I knew this was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up”.
