Shimano has just presented new shoes for six sectors covering everywhere from race to gravity and even adventure riding. Here are the new features of their mountain bike lineup.
Gravity Shoes : The AM Line
Despite what the name might suggest, the AM line is not only meant for all-mountain but also for downhill, enduro and BMX. It was developed with the feedback of the Athertons.
The three models are:
AM9 : compatible with SPD and designed for downhill, enduro and trailriding. Weight 744g
AM7 : for all-mountain and downhill, with a Vibram sole (no SPD) for extra grip on the pedal, along with comfort and protection. Weight 731g
AM5 : for gravity and BMX. Available in black and green, it’s designed to maximize comfort and protection. Weight 941g
For winter riding: MW7
The MW7 are sturdy shoes, insulated and waterproof for those who don’t stop riding when winter hits.
To keep your feet warm and dry, the MW7 have a fleece inner sole and a Gore-Tex upper.
These shoes utilize a “Torbal” torsional midsole, providing a more flexible heel to leave the rider free to move more, but rigid up front, for better power transfer. The longer cleat slots are also warmly welcomed.
XM line adventure riding
Shimano will still offer a boot with a Vibram sole. For 2016 it will be named XM9. These boots offer more protection to the ankle without interfering with pedaling. There is also a protective rubber toecap and a Gore-Tex membrane that ensures water resistance. The weight is 1070g
The XM7 sits lower and is designed to work equally well when pedaling and when walking. Suede upper and Gore-Tex to promote both durability and protection while offering water resistance and breathability.
The Vibram sole aids in traction and walkability.
The Weight is 870g.
All of the weights listed are for a size 40.
The WM line for Women
The WM64 and WM53 are crosscountry shoes for women. The shoes are designed to better fit a female’s foot. They are also constructed with the ankles slightly lower compared to the mens shoes.
