[Video] Chasing Trial Ep. 27 Alex Volokhov

[Press release]   – The road trip. The act of considering the idea of escaping everyday life, exploring and experimenting with new horizons. The 1919 km trip was not an exception. I, Calvin Huth and Steve Shannon, were impatient to go out and explore the vast dreamland called Farwell Canyon. This unique and well-appreciated area was founded and traveled by the pioneers of freeride mountain biking in the early 90s. Fortunately for us, SCOTT had just introduced a new tough all-round bike, the perfect way to travel.

The stars were lining up, the emails had been sent and we were planning to head west.

The timing of this trip was a bit weird: Calvin and I were in Utah for Rampage when we realized that there was little time before winter hit the north. Needless to say, there was a small “road trip” to get there. The day after the finals, we loaded Calvin’s van and left Utah to embark on a mission to Canada. After a few liters of coffee and more than 30 hours of driving, we were in the wild west of the Cariboo-Chilcotin. Arrived late at night, we immediately prepared the camp to rest for the adventures of the following days.

Farwell is a special place. If you put Alaskan off-piste skiing and mountain biking in a blender, you’ll get Farwell’s delicious freeride shake. As with skiing, conditions must be perfect. If it is too sunny and dry the soil will harden and risk killing you when you need to slow down. A little rain, and your tires encounter too much friction and do not flow anymore. Certain trajectories are also virtually impossible to reach, due to the technical terrain and steeps. Last but not least, you have to earn your turns, there is no lift or chair lift, you have to climb with the bike! ”

With the knowledge of a meteorological system in place there was no time to waste. When we got up the sun shone, the place screamed to pedal, and so it all started. We lived two full days: from early morning, all the time in the Holy Grail of mountain biking, and then the nights by the fire. We were loaded, but then we were struck by the curse of the weather: the rain came, and it made itself felt. At this point we had no other option but to leave.

Feeling uneasy and still hungry for mountain bikes, we could not wait to go out to demonstrate even more what this bike was capable of. This reminded us of the Sunshine Coast.

After a quick chat with Curtis Robinson and Dylan Dunkerton of Coastal Crew / Coast Gravity Park, we were leaving for our next stop on this road trip.

After receiving what seemed to be the golden ticket (the park keys), we started an amazing photo shoot in one of the best parks in the world. Without a doubt, the Coast Gravity has some of the most beautiful trails. Huge wave quays, perfectly sculpted jumps, it’s all fluid. This place is more cared for your mother’s plants. You can throw yourself in any way, follow it at trail speed and everything is perfect, right from the first time. It’s incredible, it’s a real blessing to be here.

Three days at the park, and the project was defined, an unforgettable road trip. The Ransom was put under pressure during this trip, and she behaved very well. She managed everything: from jagged steep lines in the mountains, to DH trail and jumps.

See you at the next road trip!
