Ellsworth, dopo il successo di fine anni novanta inizio duemila, era un po’ sparita dal mercato. Uno dei motivi è stato il cambiamento dei materiali usati nelle bici di alta gamma: dal classico alluminio si era passati al carbonio, e per seguire il trend Tony Ellsworth aveva deciso di far produrre i telai in Oriente, venendo meno ad uno dei suoi principi cardine, quello di produrre negli Stati Uniti.
Arrivando in ritardo nel mercato del carbonio, le vendite si sono poi mostrate deludenti. La soluzione è stata quella di vendere Ellswort a BST Nano Carbon di Rancho Bernardo, California. In questo modo la produzione del carbonio può tornare in California (Ellswort è di San Diego), a cominciare da alcune parti della gamma 2016 che vedete qui sotto. Dal 2017 l’intera produzione sarà spostata negli Stati Uniti. L’alluminio è sempre stato prodotto negli US.
Ellsworth è ora una nuova azienda, con un nuovo management e nuovi prodotti. Rimane il tanto acclamato sistema di sospensione ICT (Instant Center Tracking), brevettato nel 1997.
